Applications submitted for next 500 homes at Greenwich Peninsula
02/04/2008

Applications submitted for next 500 homes at Greenwich Peninsula as construction of the first office building begins.

Following Rt. Hon Yvette Cooper MP’s visit to Greenwich Peninsula in November, the creation of this new district for London has moved into the next phase. Planning applications have been submitted for a further 512 new homes and construction work is now taking place on the first commercial building.

The designs within the applications for both residential developments demonstrate the environmentally friendly approach of Meridian Delta Ltd, the joint venture between Lend Lease and Quintain Estates and Development plc, which was appointed by English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency, to create a vibrant community at Greenwich Peninsula. A range of features focus on sustainability: green roofs, rainwater recycling and measures to reduce car use while encouraging cycling and walking.

The first plot faces west across Central Park towards the Pilot Inn pub and contains 40 per cent affordable homes. 62 per cent of these will be rented units, with the balance intermediate affordable. 10 per cent of the affordable homes within this building will be adaptable for wheelchair use. This is a joint venture with local RSLs, Moat and L&Q.

The second block is located on the riverside, adjacent to the first commercial building. Of the 305 apartments 92 will be for affordable rent or intermediate, and it’s proposed that the 23 storey building will have three retail units on the ground floor. MDL has joined with Crest Nicholson to promote this plot.

The London Borough of Greenwich planning committee is expected to consider both applications in late February this year.

The first commercial building, which has been pre-let to Transport for London, is being constructed by Bovis Lend Lease.
