Landscaping & ecology
Nature matters
At the heart of our design for Greenwich Peninsula is concern for ecological balance. We're building a high quality environment that's attractive in itself, will preserve and enrich the wild-life and habitats unique to the area and meet ambitious targets for sustainability.
There will be riverside access to the Thames at Peninsula Quays - a slipway and steps will lead to a new beach down on the river. There’s space to meet and to play, to sit and let the river drift by - all within a landscaped promenade.
Every street and square will have a distinctive character, with an eco-corridor connecting the park to the river to encourage wildlife deep into the neighbourhood. Timber walkways, extensive planting, streams and bridges will give the whole peninsula a unique personality.
The apartment buildings will enjoy easily accessible landscaped communal courtyards that complement the landscaping of the public spaces. Most of the courtyards will have play areas.
There will be an abundance of green roofs on the buildings. These will not only provide roof terraces for residents and bring more greenery into the area, but will create wildlife habitats in an area currently lacking in natural diversity.
