Poured Staircase

As part of an ongoing exploration of colour, Turner Prize nominee, Ian Davenport has reimagined the entrance stairwell of The Tide. 

Through Poured Staircase, Davenport has created an immersive river of colour that cascades down The Tide staircase in parallel stripes. Davenport is well known for his abstract paintings, which explore process and materiality. The force of the elements such as gravity are important themes in his artwork. In recent years, his work has consisted of carefully poured lines of acrylic paint down a surface, which puddle and pool at the bottom. 

Visitors are encouraged to walk across the artwork as it flows across this transitional space of The Tide. Lose yourself in the movement of the colour. You can visit Ian's colourful exhibition on The Tide daily from 8:00 - 23:00.
