This October, NOW Gallery’s critically acclaimed annual photographic exhibition Human Stories returns with a solo exhibition by documentary photographer Inès Elsa Dalal.

Entitled Human Stories: Unreported Uprisings, Dalal will present a series of powerful photographic essays documenting the protests of striking workers in the UK. Photographed in the first quarter of 2023 during the strikes of firefighters, train drivers, teachers, junior doctors, nurses, public civil servants and many more disenchanted groups within society, Dalal shares an unpublished contemporary archive and commentary of the prevailing British social landscape, at a time when the country came very close to mobilising a General Strike.

Join us at NOW Gallery for the exhibition launch with music from DJ, writer and broadcaster Haseeb Iqbal and ‘Create Your Own Affirmation’ workshops held by artist Nadina Ali. Drinks will be provided at for a reasonable fee throughout the night.

Create Your Own Affirmation Workshop with Nadina Ali

Design a protest poster with socially engaged artist Nadina Ali (Nadina Did This). As part of Human Stories: Unreported Uprisings, Nadina Ali to present a new large-scale graphic artwork on the gallery’s façade. In dialogue with Dalal’s photographic series, the artwork is a powerful expression of solidarity – reading ‘Unity is Strength’.

Running from 19:00 - 21:00 , drop by the workshop and come up with a protest slogan, and using the materials provided, design your own graphic artwork responding to theme of fair worker’s rights.

Please note there will be photography at this event. If you do not wish to be filmed, just let a member of the NOW Gallery team know.
